Bento Lunchbox Ideas for Kids

A few months ago I started packing my preschooler’s lunch in a Bentobox and it has turned into her new favorite way to eat her lunch! I love that I can eliminate plastic baggies and that all of her food fits inside one (divided) container. I snagged this cute Bentgo Kids lunchbox on Amazon during a Black Friday sale, and we have used it nearly every day since. At just under $30, they are a little on the pricey side, but well worth the investment. Did I mention they are leak-proof and dishwasher-safe?! Read on to learn about a few of my favorite lunch packing tools + some fun Bento lunchbox ideas for kids!

How Can I Make My Kids’ Lunches More Fun?!

I get asked a lot how I have the time to pack “cute” lunches for my kids and the answer is simple – I actually don’t put a ton of extra effort into it! I use a few simple tools to elevate their lunch and add a pop of color; however, it doesn’t involve a ton of extra time. I can still pack both of my kiddos’ lunches in under 10 minutes!

One of the simplest ways I know how to turn a “boring” sandwich into a FUN sandwich is by using cookie cutters! I always stock up on seasonal cookie cutters around the holidays and then keep some generic ones on hand for year-round.

I also like to use mini cookie cutters for cutting fruits + veggies, as well as lunch meat and cheese.

Lastly, I always try to include a fun napkin in their lunch, too. I stock up on these in the holiday or party section at Target or Hobby Lobby and it instantly makes their lunches just a little bit more colorful! Over the years I’ve learned that it is truly the little things that mean the most to our kids.

And since I’m a sucker for themed snacks + lunches, I thought it would be fun to put together a couple of Valentine’s Day lunch ideas for y’all! If you follow me on Instagram you may have already seen a few of these, but I wanted to share them here as well.

Valentine’s BentoBox – What to Include
  • Heart shaped sandwich or lunch meat + cheese cubes
  • Red or purple colored fruit (think strawberries, watermelon, raspberries, grapes & blueberries)
  • Heart shaped cereal (like this limited edition version from Cheerios)
  • Heart shaped veggie chips (a fun twist on veggie straws from Sensible Portions)
  • And don’t forget dessert (mini marshmallows or dark chocolate chips are great ideas to fill that tiny container in the middle of your Bentgo Box)!
Valentine's Bentobox Lunch

All of the lunchbox ideas seen here are completely dairy-free, too! That cheese you see there is actually vegan and those chocolate chips are dairy-free dark chocolate chips from Enjoy Life Foods. My 4 year old, London, has severe food allergies to both milk and peanuts, which is why you will see lots of allergy friendly food here. You can always modify any of these ideas to fit your child’s diet!

For more lunchbox ideas, I started a new weekday series over in my IG stories! Nothing overly complicated or fancy; just easy, kid-approved lunches! Everything is saved in my highlights so you can always go back and reference them at a later date, too!
