DIY Patriotic Clothespin Wreath

With 4th of July weekend quickly approaching, I wanted to share this easy DIY Patriotic Clothespin Wreath that will add a nice pop of red, white & blue to your front door! I am lucky enough to live in a great neighborhood with some wonderful ladies, so last 4th of July, we gathered everyone up and hosted a “Ladies Craft Night”. We spent time chatting, drinking wine, and making these adorable wreaths. It was such a fun evening getting to know our neighbors while making something really cute in the process. I love driving through our neighborhood and seeing all of our wreaths hanging from everyone’s front doors.

Supplies Needed:

Approx. 60 clothespins (depending upon spacing, you may need a few more)

(3) cans of spray paint – red, white & blue

12 in. floral wire wreath

Star punch (or star stickers)

Super glue or hot glue gun

Ribbon to hang your wreath

{Note: I was able to purchase all of the craft supplies for this project at Walmart and Michaels}

Directions:

Spray paint. You’ll first want to spray paint your wire wreath white, so that the green won’t show through. Then, while you’re waiting for the wreath to dry, spray paint 20 clothespins of each color – red, white & blue. You’ll want to spray paint the entire clothespin for a more cohesive look. Drying time will vary, but they really don’t take very long to dry, especially if you’re spray painting outside in the summer. {Side note: depending upon spacing of each clothespin, I recommend spray painting a few extra of each color, just in case}

Assemble your wreath. Attach the clothespins to the wreath simply by clipping onto the 3rd row from the bottom. You’ll want them to be very close together so there are no large gaps. Some people choose to alternate clipping the clothespins to the 2nd and 3rd row, but all of mine are clipped to the 3rd row. It’s totally up to you! Experiment with the placement of the clothespins to see which look you like best. You can space the colored clothespins out however you’d like – I did 20 blue, 10 white, 10 red, 10 white, and 10 red (as pictured above). Each lady at our craft night did something a little different, and they all turned out fabulous, so get creative!

Add the stars. If you have star stickers, the last step is just to place your stickers on your wreath in whatever pattern you’d like. Otherwise, you can use your star hole punch to cut out stars from card stock. Add them to your wreath with superglue or a hot glue gun. Lastly, tie your ribbon to the top of the clothespin wreath, and you’re all set!

Happy 4th!

Sumer
