Rainbow Popsicle Stick Bird Feeder Craft

For the past few months the kids & I have been watching a little blue bird who lives in a tree in our front yard. London calls it her “birdie friend”. Awhile back she asked to make a bird feeder for her “friend” from an empty juice box, so we did. Bless her little heart but the bird feeder is entirely too small for any bird, but it makes her happy to know she is helping in a small way. So, a few weeks ago we decided to get crafty with some rainbow popsicle sticks and make a much more practical bird feeder for her little friend 😉 If you’re looking for a fun craft to do at home this summer then grab your craft supplies and add some color to your backyard with this rainbow popsicle stick bird feeder craft!

Supplies Needed

• Popsicle Sticks (Jumbo size work best)
• Twine
• Craft Glue and/or Glue Gun
• Bird Seed (formulated for small birds)

How-To

I found a few similar ideas on Pinterest, but ended up just creating my own “design” as I went. Truthfully, I wasn’t so sure how this project was going to turn out, so I didn’t take any photos of the building process (oops!). But shockingly, this bird feeder was actually pretty easy to make.

First, you’ll want to start by layering your popsicle sticks to make your base. I used craft glue for the base and then used a hot glue gun for a few of the top sections that I needed to dry quickly. This particular design did require a fair amount of popsicle sticks, but you could totally skip the roof and just stick with the base as the feeder. Lastly, fill with bird seed (we ordered ours from Amazon) and secure it to the tree with twine. And that’s it!

I’m really happy with how it turned out and I just love the pop of color it adds to our yard! I sure hope London’s little blue bird pal enjoys her new colorful feeder!

P.S. Little known fact: I am actually afraid of birds. Something about their flapping wings freaks me out, haha! Do you have any weird phobias?!
