Welcome to Our Homeschool Room

Last week over on our Instagram account I shared a quick peak of our at-home learning space and I’m happy to say it is now officially ready for my little students! If you follow me over on the gram then you likely know that we have decided on our school’s hybrid schedule to start the year. This means my kids will have 2 days of face-to-face learning each week and the other 3 days will be spent at home doing a mix of independent + virtual learning. While we won’t be homeschooling in the traditional sense, we do anticipate quite a bit of independent learning here at home, which is why I decided to create a designated homeschool room/at-home learning space. [Side note: homeschool is our plan B should circumstances change at school]

I had a lot of fun pulling this space together and am really excited to put it to good use! We are lucky to have built-in desks in our loft area, which made for a great start to the space. But up until now the kids mostly just used it as a dumping ground for their toys and a place to occasionally sit down & color.

It may look colorful & organized, but I promise it’s nothing fancy or overly complicated. I found most of what you see pictured here at Target and Michaels and spent less than $100 on everything (minus the desk, chairs & wall clock).

Where To Shop For Your At-Home Learning Space

First, before you head to the store to buy any organizational supplies (or cute decor) be sure to look through what you already have on hand at home. You may be surprised to find items that you forgot you even had! This is also a great opportunity to take a look at what school supplies you need to replenish for the coming year. I recommend making a list and sticking with it when you’re out shopping.

Next, be sure to take advantage of back-to-school sales (& teacher discounts, if applicable). And don’t forget about the Target OneSpot! That’s actually where I found these colorful book bins. Target always has a great selection of classroom posters, fun learning materials, activity books & more!

Michaels is another fantastic place for back-to-school shopping! I found several really cute wooden decor pieces (including the fun little globe and desk calendar). They also have an awesome selection of classroom decorations, classroom organization, teacher planners & cute labels, too!

How to Organize Your School Supplies

There are so many ways to organize your kiddos’ school supplies – with a little trial & error you will soon find what works best for your daily school routine. Even though we have built-in desks with drawers for storage, I still like to keep frequently used supplies & learning materials readily accessible. One of my favorite storage solutions are book bins. Inside our book bins you will find our reading materials, activity books, notebooks, folders and drawing pads – all things we will use on a regular basis. I then labeled our book bins with chalkboard labels that I found at Michaels.

When it comes to organizing school supplies, I like to use supply caddys. Inside our supply caddy we have all of our favorite Crayola products – colored pencils, washable markers, crayons, as well as scissors & glue. Depending upon the ages of your children, the supplies in your caddy may be slightly different from ours.

With so much uncertainty surrounding the school year, I really just wanted to create something special for the kids to try and make learning at home as enjoyable as possible for them. My hope is that this will be an inspiring space inside our home where sweet memories will be made.
