5 Things to Do in The Hamptons with Kids

As you may have read in my previous post, we just returned home from a fabulous week in NYC. I promised y’all I’d share more about what we did in the Hamptons, so here are 5 things to do in the Hamptons with kids. If you’ve never visited the Hamptons, then I highly recommend it! It is truly a beautiful vacation destination for the entire family!

1. Plan a day trip to Montauk

Montauk, located at the tip of the South Fork peninsula of Long Island, is the easternmost point in the state of New York. It’s a quaint little town known for it’s gorgeous beaches, historic lighthouse & commercial fishing industry. Depending upon where you are staying out on Long Island, it can be a bit of a lengthy drive; however, I encourage you to enjoy the scenery along the way and make the drive out to Montauk!

You can easily fill an afternoon here with sea shell hunting, exploring the lighthouse, and walking around the cute little downtown area. Grab lunch at one of the outdoor eateries and pick up a Montauk T-shirt at one of the many boutique shops. And if you’re looking for a place for the kids to burn off some energy, check out the playground near the Montauk Lighthouse.

2. Play mini golf in Southampton

Believe it or not, we have never taken the kids to play mini golf! So when we stumbled upon Hamptons Mini Golf (in Southampton) we were so excited for the kids to finally get to play. This 18-hole course is super cute and is perfectly themed – featuring several historic landmarks you will see around the Hamptons.

The kids had an absolute blast playing! And despite the summer heat, they surprisingly hung on til the end!

3. Enjoy a dinner with a view at Cowfish – Hampton Bays

If you’re looking for a family-friendly dinner spot on the water, then you’ve found it! Cowfish, located in Hampton Bays, is open year-round and features American cuisine. If you visit in the summer, then you may have to wait a bit for your table; however, the gorgeous view of the marina makes the wait bearable. And even better, there is a large play structure outside which makes it a great place to pass the time with kids! P.S. Save room for the Iron Skillet Cookie – you won’t be disappointed!

4. Explore Sag Harbor

Sag Harbor is one of my favorite seaside towns we visited in the Hamptons. It is an incredibly charming place. It’s easy to see why so many celebrities choose Sag Harbor as their home away from home during the summer. After you explore the quaint streets around town, grab lunch or dinner at LT Burger on Main Street, then walk over to Big Olaf’s for a post-dinner ice cream treat. Enjoy your ice cream over at the Long Warf and see how many yachts you can spot! (Hint: there’s a lot)

5. Hit the beach

The Hamptons are known for their beautiful beaches, so you definitely don’t want to skip out on a beach day here! Just make sure you research your desired beach prior to arriving, as you will find both rocky and sandy beaches out on Long Island. You don’t want to get there expecting to see sand and instead arrive to a very rocky terrain – especially with young kids in tow. Generally speaking, you will find more sandy beaches on the South Shore, whereas the North Shore is home to rocky shores.

This is just a small snip-it of what there is to do in the Hamptons with kids. If you are visiting NYC and have an extra day or two, I highly encourage you to make the drive and explore all that the Hamptons have to offer!

Bonus activity – Date night in the Hamptons

If you can sneak away from the kids for a date night, then you definitely don’t want to miss the Wölffer Estate Vineyard! While the vineyard does welcome children, I don’t recommend bringing them. We have been to several vineyards around the country and I have to say that Wölffer Estate is one of our absolute favorites. The scenery is stunning!

Have you been to the Hamptons? What is your favorite town to explore?

Sumer

I’ve been going to Sag Harbor since I’ve been a kid with my parents we used to rent a beach house every summer for a few weeks. I have so many memories and this article made me think of them. Thank you I live on Long Island and sometimes we travel to different places and forgot what’s in our own backyard.

How awesome!! Yes, having NYC & the Hamptons in your backyard is incredible! I know what you mean though…I think we all take where we live for granted sometimes.
