DIY Teacher Appreciation Gift
Everywhere I go back to school merch is popping up! And because I love any excuse for a themed craft, I figured now is as good a time as any to get started on back to school content! Yesterday I picked up these terracotta pots from Hobby Lobby and transformed them into classroom themed candy jars. These DIY jars would make the perfect “welcome back to school” gift for your child’s new teacher!
Here’s a quick look at the supplies you’ll need for this easy DIY.
Supplies Needed
- Terracotta Pots + Lids
- Acrylic Paint + Brushes
- Pencil
- Scissors & Crafting Knife
- Green Pipe Cleaner
- Hot Glue Gun
- Stickers (Numbers & Letters)
How-To
First, start by painting your terracotta pots & lids with acrylic paint. You’ll likely need 2 coats of paint for complete coverage.
Next, begin adding your embellishments – add “No.2” stickers to your little pencil jar and “ABC” stickers to your chalkboard jar. For the chalkboard jar, I also added a school themed ribbon to the top to give it a little pop of color!
For the apple jar I used a pencil for the stem by cutting off the top with a crafting knife and then securing with hot glue. Lastly, I added green pipe cleaner to make the leaves.
I had originally planned to just make the apple jar, but got a little carried away and decided on pencil and chalkboard themed jars to complete the set 😉 Fill with their favorite candy (or school supplies!) & tie a Target gift card to the outside to let your child’s teacher know they are appreciated! And don’t forget to save this post for Teacher Appreciation Week in the spring!
