The Ultimate Guide to Wölffer Estate Vineyard

I know this might not be the typical post you’re used to reading around here, as I usually share kid-friendly travel destinations; however, this one today is specifically for us – the parents! If you caught my post about our trip to The Hamptons, then you may have seen that we visited the Wölffer Estate Vineyard during our trip. The hubby & I were lucky enough to sneak away for a date night to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary here. Because we loved this vineyard so much, I thought I would share our experience there!

Before I continue, I should add that children are welcome at Wölffer Estate Vineyard; however, if you really want to experience all that this gorgeous vineyard has to offer, I would save this destination for a date night.

The details – location, hours, etc…

The vineyard is located in Sagaponack, NY – about 2 1/2 hours outside Manhattan. Sagaponack is a village in the quaint town of Southampton on Long Island. The Wölffer Estate is open year-round from 11 am to 8 pm daily. It’s important to note that they do host private events throughout the year, so if you are planning to visit it’s best to call ahead of time to make a reservation (more on that below).

Take a Vineyard & Cellar Tour

I highly recommend taking a tour of the vineyard grounds and wine cellar. Tours are 1 1/2 hours and include a tasting. Reservations for these tours are accepted up to 2 weeks in advance and the cost is $68.50/person. Keep in mind you will be walking throughout your tour, so do wear comfy shoes.

During the first half of your tour you will spend time outside in the vineyard learning about how they grow and harvest their grapes. The second half of the tour you will venture inside to learn all about their actual wine making process.

Enjoy a tasting in the Winery

Whether you take a vineyard tour or just sit down for a tasting in the Winery, you don’t want to miss the chance to sample the wonderful selection of Wölffer wines. Personal favorites of ours were: the Chardonnay, Summer in a Bottle Rosé & Noblesse Oblige (a sparkling Rosé). Note that reservations are also required for sit down tastings.

Spot a celebrity

We all know that celebrities flock to the Hamptons in the summer months, and many of them frequent Wölffer as well! We unfortunately missed visiting the same time as Carrie Underwood by just a few days, but it was still a lot of fun to see all of the wine barrels signed by celebrities!

Don’t forget to visit the gift shop

Inside the gift shop you will find a variety of their wines for sale, as well as wine glasses, cute coasters + cutting boards, and other charming souvenirs. We took home several bottles of our favorite wines we sampled, a set of stemless wine glasses and a bottle of their Rosé wine vinegar. And if you run out of wine once you get home, no need to worry because you can also purchase many of their wines at select local retailers. Check here to see if Wölffer wines are available near you. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here and hope to return one day in the future! If you find yourself visiting the Hamptons or feel like taking a drive out to Long Island from NYC, Wölffer Estate Vineyard is absolutely worth the trip!
